CAIRO: Egypt has signed a contract with a specialized company to develop control systems in the country's High and Low dams in Aswan, Upper Egypt, according to Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis. The project to update and develop the dams' equipment – which has been operating for more than 25 years – will cost 130 millions EGP (U.S. $22 million). The project aims to modernize the speed organizers, turbines, and voltage generators in both dams. This phase will come after developing the main generators in the High Dam, Younis added. The project is funded by a loan from a development bank owned by the German government, Younis said. The development works could take more than two years, lasting until 2014, and the work time is related to the timing of the winter flood season, Younis added.
