The upgrading of Egypt's High Dam is expected to be completed in 2014. The developments will enable the dam to work at full capacity for 40 years says Hassan Younis Minister of Electricity and Energy. The minister said that LE1.7 billion has been spent upgrading the 12 electric turbines of the dam and the Ministry of Electricity and Energy will spend another LE170 million which it took as a loan from the German Development Bank. Egypt has taken a total loan of 4.3 million Euros from the German government to help in the upgrading process. According to a report by the International Cooperation Ministry the Egyptian and German governments previously agreed on an 82.574 million Euros loan for the upgrading of the dam based on the 1999 Financial Cooperation Agreement signed by the two countries in 2000. This brings the loan to 87 million Euros with an added interest rate of 0.7% to be paid over 40 years.
