The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) escalated its attack against Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). It said in a statement, "the SCAF tends to be a part of the political process." The party warned that the SCAF may be involved in matters that could affect its role in Egyptian society. The political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood criticized the document issued by the military council during its meeting with chairmen of political parties, although the chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party, Mohamed Morsi, signed the document. The FJP accused the ruling council of backing away from the role that it took in the beginning of the revolution. It clarified that the council promised to hand over power to a civilian authority, which will draft the new constitution, although it insists on keeping authority until the constitution is drafted. The party said that the performance of the military council was more balanced before it participated in the current political controversies surrounding the transition. It warned that the institution of the military could lose its position if it insisted on playing a political role. The FJP said that the party accepted the main constitutional principles adopted by al-Azhar and the Democratic Coalition for Egypt, adding that the party has its own vision for constitutional principles that reflect the identity of Egyptian culture. It said that the party is working to build an expanding political coalition, which will represent the parliamentary majority, viewing the current stage as reform period. It said that the party is keen on preserving the coalition to form a new regime and the new constitution. It expressed its readiness to run for the next parliamentary elections with a unified list for the Democratic Coalition or on multiple lists. The Freedom and Justice Party demanded the different parties announce their position regarding the coalition, demanding that parties earnestly work in the street to gain the confidence of the people during elections.
