The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party launched an attack Tuesday against Egypt's ruling military council and the prime minister's cabinet over the proposed parliamentary elections law. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) is scheduled to approve the law Tuesday. In a statement, the party - which is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood - said SCAF and the cabinet's decisions "negatively affect" the interim period and lack a "definite political vision." The party also criticized the elections law, saying it was surprised the law is not the same as the one that SCAF had proposed earlier or that political groups had called for. The party stressed the necessity of setting dates for parliamentary elections, presidential elections, elections for the committee that will be tasked with writing the constitution, and transferring power. The party said that Egypt has been through exceptional circumstances but that the country's rulers have failed to restore security despite the continuation of oppressive security measures.
