CAIRO: General Abdel Hamid, the ninth witness in the case against ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons Gamal and Alaa, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and his six top security chiefs, today claimed that al-Adly's attorney attempted to persuade him to change his testimony. The former regime strongmen are accused of killing peaceful protestors during the popular uprising in the January 25 Revolution that led to the collapse of the 30-year regime. In an interview with broadcaster Moataz Matar, Hamid said that he had a close relationship with al-Adly as a member of the Supreme Council of the Police and often met with his family at the rowing club. He also claims that he was forced to resign from the Interior Ministry after his court testimony during which he claims to have destroyed CD recordings confirming al-Adly's orders to fire on demonstrators. Hamid said he testified to ease his conscience.
