Revolution Youth Coalition refuses new reforms of Emergency Law
Published in Youm7 on 17 - 09 - 2011

CAIRO: Many politicians and Revolution Youth Coalition criticized the Egyptian government and Egypt's ruling military council insisting on applying Emergency Law.
They refused the military council's decision of preventing the application of the Emergency Law on politicians, protestors and public opinion representatives.
They also assured there are power centers in Egyptian governments, particularly in the Ministry of Interior, are aiming to destroy Egyptian development, cause a loss of state of security and prove to Egyptians the former regime system will return.
Some other politicians demanded the application of the Emergency Law on Ministry of Interior officers.
“Who will guarantee Emergency Law won't be applied on politicians?” asked the Egyptian political activist and member of Revolution Youth Coalition, Asmaa Mahfouz.
Mahfouz also questioned why the Emergency Law isn't applied on the Ministry of Interior's suspended officers.
She added the government pleased the Egyptian citizens by announcing the Emergency Law will be applying on thugs only and it will not applied on innocent citizens.
“The normal law for criminals is enough to punish and arrest thugs, it is not applied, however. This clearly shows politic deception and reminds Egyptians of the system of the former regime,” said Mahfouz.
She said all Egyptian political forces made a mistake when they allowed military council to rule Egypt as the defender of the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. Laws must be applied as a result of popular coherence. The Emergency Law must therefore be applied on police laggard officers as well.
“Do not follow do what the former regime did by using the Emergency Law because Egyptians refuse it. There are other laws to punish for violations and restrictions of communities, which is the Law of Criminals,” said the head of Al-Ahram Center for translation and publication, Waheed Abdul Majeed.
Abdul Majeed also said another main problem is the absence of security, which is the Ministry of Interior's responsibility. However, the Ministry did not change; it still has power centers trying to return the former regime by applying the Emergency Law.
A member of Revolution Youth coalition, Sallie Tomma, said reforming the Emergency Law is unacceptable because it was applied before on politicians.
“The Egyptian January 25 Revolution was against applying the Emergency Law. However they insisted on applying it now,” Tomma said.
She added the main problem in Egypt is applying laws incorrectly. There are many people who were arrested during the Egyptian January 25 Revolution and accused of riots. However they were just defending their houses and homes from thugs and thieves.
“There is no reason to apply the Emergency Law because the public opinion refuses it,” said a member of the executive office for Revolution Youth, Khaled Abdul Hameed. “The government imposed a siege on people, which will extend the transitional phase in Egypt.”
