AEXANDRIA, Egypt: A four floored building collapsed yesterday in El-Gomrok district, west Alexandria. Civil Protection Department in Alexandria was able to rescue seven residents. The Civil Protection Department forces, headed by Brigadier Emad Kheir, and ambulance cars moved immediately to the place of the incident in El Gomrok district. The forces started searching for injured or survivors under the rubble. The Civil Protection Department succeeded to rescue seven residents by using the Civil Protection ladder, after the collapse of the building's stairs. The Alexandrian governor, Osama el-Foly, decided to allot six housing units in the 26-kilometer region of west Alexandria for the victims of the collapsed building. El-Foly also decided to form an engineering committee during the inspection of the site of the accident, to find out the reasons of the collapse. A study will be submitted about all the estates in the region, especially those who previously received removal decisions. The vice-governor of Alexandria called security agencies for a rapid arrest of the building contractor, who was working demolition to a building adjacent to one that collapsed, causing a fracture and then the collapse of the building.
