CAIRO: Former Arab League head Amr Moussa asked the Egyptian people to give Egypt's Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and his government a chance to fix what the former regime corrupted during the past 30 years. "Political life faces success and failures. Politicians must not lose control in the face of criticism," said Moussa, expected to be among the candidates in Egypt's next presidential elections. Moussa said the former regime passed through a stage of confusion and instability. He also said the Egyptian influence extends to include both the Arab world and Africa, and that Egypt is involved in economic, political and cultural fields. "Democracy can be achieved through real elections, whether in the Shura Council or the People's Assembly,” he said, referring to the upper and lower houses of the Egyptian parliament. He added that Egypt needs stable rule for at least four years. "The former regime was not democratic, it was dictatorial, because the president was above the constitution," said Moussa.
