Increasing divorce rates have become an obvious phenomena in Egyptian society, said Huda Kakryia, a sociology professor at the Faculty of Arts. Zakarya said the most common factor in such a high divorce rate is a society in which marriages are rushed and delaying marriage is looked down upon. She said youth rush to marry without being ready, and then discover they face a very different reality full of responsibilities. “Love only is not enough,” Zakarya added. “Social, cultural, educational, and religious differences between couples may lead to divorce.” “Family and friends interfering in relationships is another common reason for divorce,” she said. Zakarya recommended couples join training and awareness programs before marriage to acquire experience.
