The first investigation into the death of a 17-year-old student in Fayoum has begun. Egypt's prosecution is investigating police detective Qorani Hamid and Officer Mohamed Latif of killing Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Hamid at the requenst of the boy's father. The victim's father said that he heard the name of the detective in the police station when his colleagues asked, "Why did you kill the boy, Qorani?" The father also said the victim's friend, Mustafa Belal, was a witness to the incident and was also injured. The father said Belal told him that his son had been beaten to death by Qorani. The prosecution ordered the forensic medicine department to check Belal and make a report about his state of health and injuries. The prosecution is also investigating Latif, who was present at the checkpoint where the victim died. Latif denied that the student was assaulted, saying he refused to stop his motorbike at the ambush and consequently hit the wall with his motorbike, which caused his death. The officer's story was denied by another motorcycle driver who was a witness to the incident. He said one of the police detectives beat the defendant to death with a stick. He added that after the incident an ambulance transferred the victim to a hospital while a police car took his injured friend, Belal, to the police station. Hanafy Mustafa al-Sayed, a car driver, also watched the incident and confirmed that the victim was driving his motorcycle quietly while a police officer ordered him to stop. When Hamid didn't stop, the police ordered one of the detectives to stop him. Al-Sayed added that the detective assaulted the victim with an onyx tree, so he lost control of the motorcycle and hit the wall. He said an ambulance came to transfer the victim to the hospital while his friend went to the police station in a police car. Youm7 met with Hanafy Mustafa al-Sayed, the second witness, who confirmed his testimony and said he will not back away from it. The prosecution has ordered a complete investigation and has called to hear the testimony of the other detectives and officer who were present at the checkpoint.
