CAIRO: Prominent Salafi figure Yasser Borhamy issued a statement calling for people not to participate in today's ‘Second Friday of Anger' demonstrations planned for Tahrir Square and elsewhere. He accused the political powers calling for the demonstration of manipulating the public gathering to achieve their personal demands at the expense of the nation's will. Borhamy described demand of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' (SCAF) stepping down as “the most dangerous demand that could threaten the stability of the country.” He asked who could run the state after the council and from whom can they take their legitimacy? He said the May 19 constitutional referendum showed the people wanted the SCAF to continue running the state's affairs during the current period. Presence of negativity in the SCAF's performance does not mean that it should step down, he said, as this could lead a state of chaos which the revolution's enemies want. Borhamy said this is reason enough to refuse to participate in the demonstration. Borhamy also warned of demands calling for exceptional revolutionary trials which could ruin judicial authority. He said the man-million demonstrations, sits-in and strikes threaten the stability of the country. Moreover, he said releasing the offices who participated in the April 19 demonstrations would be a breach in authority of prosecution and Military Judiciary. Borhamy described the cleansing of all corrupted figures from the State Security as a “good step.”
