CAIRO: The Mubarak family's decision of yielding their fortune to escape trial drew the attention of the Egyptian Press. It is expected of the former President Hosni Mubarak to record his official apology to the Egyptian people about the violations he committed during his 30-year ruling.
Journalist Hassanen Heikal said the Mubarak's fortune abroad is worth U.S $ 9-11 billion according to authorized documents. Businessman Hussein Salem, who fled Egypt, has the keys to Mubarak's vaults, Heikal said in an interview with state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.
Regarding the Egyptian economy, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) warned of deterioration of the economy, saying the foreign investments influx equals zero due to ongoing labor demonstrations, Al-Ahram reported.
In other news, Gama'a al-Islamiyya (GA) attempted 8 assassination operations against Hosni Mubarak in the period between 1991 to 1997 but every attempt was thwarted by the State Security Investigations (SSI) and General Intelligence Directorate, an anonymous GA member told Al-Akhbar. The source said the operations are not participated by any Arab or International organizations.
Al-Wafd newspaper reported about a Muslim girl who alleged she was kidnapped in front of Maspiro, the Egyptian Television and Radio headquarters, by Coptic Christians to evangelize her by force. She said the Christian kidnappers imprisoned her with three other Muslims girls for three days and tattooed her with a cross mark, the traditional sign of a Coptic Christian.
