The Egyptian FA announced that the 2012-2013 Egyptian Premier League season will start on September 7 despite the reluctance of authorities. The Egyptian football governing body issued a statement on their website with the new date as they added that the Egyptian Super Cup is scheduled for August 26. The FA came up with the decision following a meeting with clubs' representatives on Monday as they all agreed on resuming domestic football action behind closed doors. The announcement comes as a surprise following the Ministry of Interior's rejection to stage any domestic games in the meantime. The FA also stated that specialized companies will be in charge of security in alliance with the Interior Ministry's forces. The future of football in Egypt became on the rocks in the wake of the ministry's decision few weeks ago to continue suspending football activity, an announcement that sparked a state of dismay among all parties involved in the game. Some football stars slammed authorities, others promised an ‘aggressive reaction', while many officials called for the intervention of newly-elected president Mohamed Morsi who was believed to be backing the notion of resuming sports activities.
