Next month's proposed friendly between Egypt and Brazil in Cairo has been called off for security reasons, according the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Although Egyptian FA chairman Samir Zaher claimed recently there is no intention to cancel the game completely, the Brazilian confederation says the cancelation came upon the request of the hosts. “Brazil's friendly against Egypt, scheduled for September 6, is canceled,” a statement read on the CBF website. “The CBF has received a document in which the Egyptian Federation calls for cancellation due to security problems.” The Brazilians also said they are now looking for another opponent to play against on the same date as Egypt seem set to miss out on the high-profile meeting. Postpone Despite the CBF announcement, the Egyptian FA still insists it only asked for moving the game to another date due to the continental commitments of the first team. “We requested to postpone the game to be played in October or November because Egypt are supposed to visit Sierra Leone on September 2/3/4,” FA board member Hazem Al-Hawari told FilGoal.com. “We have yet to receive a reply from the Brazilian confederation though.” Egypt have all but failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time as they lie bottom of Group 7, with two games remaining against Sierra Leone and Niger. The Niger game will take place in Cairo on October 7/8/9, nearly one week before the domestic league kicks off in Egypt.
