Former Zamalek manager Michel Decastel has been appointed as new boss for Moroccan side Wydad, the club said on Friday. Hassan Shehata, who parted ways with the Egyptian national team after five years in charge, was among the candidates for the post. But Decastel beat Shehata to the job, apparently because of his vast experience in the North African football. The 56-year-old coach has won league titles in Tunisia with both Sfaxien and Esperance then in Morocco with Wydad themselves. He was chosen by Zamalek in January 2009, when he took over during the second half of the season. But he was sacked just three games into the new season due to poor results. Decastel will be leading Wydad in the African Champions League which resumes in July as the Moroccan giants play Ahli, Esperance and Mouloudia of Algeria.
