Ahli goalie Sherif Ekrami needs to undergo surgery one more time before getting back in action, the Red Devils' official site reported. It was understood the 27-year-old was on the road to recovery following a three-month layoff due to a knee cartilage problem that required an operation. However, a fresh knee injury will force him to go under the knife again in the near future, according to Ahli doctor Walid Abdul-Baki. "He will travel to Germany within the next few days to have an operation," he said. Abdul-Baki also stressed that Ekrami is not suffering from permanent knee damage. Ekrami's injury gave third-choice keeper Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud the opportunity to regularly stand between the sticks for a while, with Ahmed Adel sidelined through injury too. Adel has become Ahli's regular guardian since his recuperation but his status could well change upon Ekrami's comeback.
