Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is left counting his losses after his side's elimination from the Carling Cup at the hands of West Ham. Ahmed Elmohamady's team were beaten 2-1 at home by the Premier League bottom club, but also had other names to add to their casualty list. Asamoah Gyan, Kieran Richardson and Anton Ferdinand all suffered injuries, with the latter duo unlikely to be fit for the Anfield visit at the weekend. "It looks as if we have three centre-backs missing - Ferdinand, [Michael] Turner and [John] Mensah - for the weekend," he said. "The goal will do Gyan the world of good. The idea was to get some fitness work into him, but that has backfired too if he has picked up a hamstring injury too. But we don't think he is as bad as Richardson and Ferdinand." Sunderland, currently 11th in the Premier League, will face the under-pressure Liverpool who are languishing in 16th place.
