Mohamed Shawky has rejoined Ahli on a three-year deal after ending his European adventure, FilGoal.com has learnt. The Egyptian midfielder moved to the Cairo giants on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Turkish side Kayserispor. He will earn EGP 10 million during his three-year stay with Ahli, the club he left in the summer of 2007 to join English side Middlesbrough. He could not establish himself at the Riverside and his lack of playing time cost him a place in Egypt's 2010 triumphant African Cup of Nations squad. Shawky endured another disappointing spell at Kayserispor which lasted for just six months. The Turkish club's failure to fulfill their financial obligations towards him prompted him to leave and return home. He is likely to face stiff competition to earn a regular place in Ahli's starting line-up, given that the team boast several prominent holding midfielders. Shawky will battle it out with the likes of Hossam Ghaly, who also returned to Ahli in the close season, Hossam Ashour, Shehab Ahmed and Egyptian internationals Ahmed Hassan and Ahmed Fathi for a spot in the heart of midfield. The 28-year-old is Ahli's fifth summer signing after Ghaly, goalkeeper Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud, playmaker Abdul-Hamid Shabana and Egypt forward Mohamed Nagi 'Geddo'. The Egyptian league holders are also expected to sign Iraqi striker Mostafa Karim.
