Tottenham center-back Sebastien Bassong has been called up to Cameroon's preliminary squad for the World Cup. The French-born defender put in some impressive performances with Spurs this season which urged coach Paul Le Guen to include him in the 30-man list. However, Bassong's inclusion was a bit of a surprise, seeing that he was not part for Cameroon's squad for this year's African Cup of Nations. The 23-year-old's teammate at Tottenham Benoit Assou-Ekotto was also named for the quadrennial competition as well as Aresnal's Alex Song, who's nursing a knee problem. Eighteen-year-old Joel Matip was given a chance to prove his worth with the Indomitable Lions, while Tenerife's Daniel Ngom Kome was shunned. Evergreen striker Samuel Eto'o, as such, was picked in the squad. He's set to feature for Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 22nd.
