Bassong receives Cameroon call-up
Published in FilGoal on 11 - 05 - 2010

Tottenham center-back Sebastien Bassong has been called up to Cameroon's preliminary squad for the World Cup.
The French-born defender put in some impressive performances with Spurs this season which urged coach Paul Le Guen to include him in the 30-man list.
However, Bassong's inclusion was a bit of a surprise, seeing that he was not part for Cameroon's squad for this year's African Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old's teammate at Tottenham Benoit Assou-Ekotto was also named for the quadrennial competition as well as Aresnal's Alex Song, who's nursing a knee problem.
Eighteen-year-old Joel Matip was given a chance to prove his worth with the Indomitable Lions, while Tenerife's Daniel Ngom Kome was shunned.
Evergreen striker Samuel Eto'o, as such, was picked in the squad. He's set to feature for Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 22nd.
Cameroon's provisional squad:
Goalkeepers: Hamidou Souleymanou (Kayserispor), Carlos Kameni (Espanyol), Guy Roland Ndy Assembe (Valenciennes), Amour Patrick Tignyemb (Bloemfontein Celtic)
Defenders: Jean Patrick Abouna Ndzana (Astres de Douala), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham), Sebastien Bassong (Tottenham), Gaetan Bong (Valenciennes), Aurelien Chedjou (Lille), Geremi Njitap (Ankaragucu), Stephane Mbia (Marseille), Makadji Boukar (Al Nahdha), Nicolas Nkoulou (Monaco), Rigobert Song (Trabzonspor)
Midfielders: Marcel Ndjeng (Augsburg), Eyong Enoh (Ajax), Jean II Makoun (Lyon), Georges Mandjeck (Kaiserslautern), Joel Matip (Schalke), Patrick Mevoungou (Canon Sportif de Yaounde), Landry Nguemo (Celtic), Alexandre Song (Arsenal)
Strikers: Vincent Aboubakar (Coton Sport), Eric Choupo-Moting (Nuremberg), Achille Emana (Betis), Samuel Eto'o (Inter Milan), Mohamadou Idrissou (Freiburg), Dorge Kouemaha (Club Brugges), Achille Webo (Mallorca), Jacques Zoua (FC Basel).
