Zamalek are close to signing Ghana midfielder Ibrahim Ayew, the player's agent said on Friday. "Ayew arrived in Cairo to undergo a medical before signing the deal," Mounir Hassan told FilGoal.com. Ayew, son of Ghana great Abedi Pele, impressed during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Ivory Coast. With superb ball control, accurate passing, cannon-like shooting and powerful tackling, the 21-year-old clearly left his mark on the competition to help Ghana book a place in the tournament's final. Reports in April said that Ayew was on his way to join German side Hoffenheim but he has now all but joined Zamalek. The Cairo giants are looking to bolster their squad after a disappointing season saw them finish sixth in the Egyptian Premier League to equal their worst ever position. New chairman Mamdouh Abbas vowed to bring in quality players to Zamalek. The club have already signed two players for the new season – their former defender Amir Azmi and Telecom Egypt striker Ahmed Gaafar. They are also in pole position to sign Ghazl Mahalla left-back Mohamed Abdul-Shafi.
