Middlesbrough striker Mido is reportedly on the brink of joining Teeside rivals Newcastle United. According to British media, the Egyptian international will conclude a deal that will see Newcastle forward Alan Smith head in the opposite direction. Despite Smith's unwillingness to join Boro, The Sun confirmed that Newcastle have told the player he won't feature in their plans if he doesn't complete the move. Mido is one of few Middlesbrough key players, who earlier announced their intention to leave the Riverside due to the team's poor league position. The 25-year-old has also failed to guarantee a starting place within the team as a result of competition with Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli and Brazilian Afonso Alves. Mido already has a turbulent past with some Newcastle fans, who directed racist chants against him on two separate occasions. The nomad player has already played for Ajax Amsterdam, Marseille, Celta, Tottenham, AS Roma, before joining Middlesbrough in 2007.
