Ahli have given wide man Hussein Yasser the green light to rejoin Qatar national team in the 19th Gulf Cup, on the condition that he returns to the club after the first two games. After initially refusing to give him the thumb up to go on international duty, the Ahli technical staff decided to allow the talented winger to get back to his country's fold. However, Ahli agreed with Qatari officials that Yasser would only play the first two games of the competition. "We have changed our mind after taking a closer look at our commitments in January," assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri told the Cairo giants' official website. "But Yasser is due to take part in the first couple of matches, and then get back to Cairo after the second game on January 8th." The regional competition is taking place starting January 4th in Oman, and Qatar are set to play on the 5th, 8th and 11th of the same month.
Al-Badri Snubbed Qatar boss Bruno Metsu was consistently overlooking Yasser during the past couple of months. The French tactician put his decision down to the player's lack of appearances with the six-time African champions. Metsu has even excluded Yasser from his provisional 35-man list for the tournament, but has eventually turned to the 26-year-old. A couple of days ago, the Egyptian-born frontman survived a horrific car accident in Cairo, having sustained several negligible bruises.
