Former Zamalek manager Ahmed Refaat revealed that he has been chosen among three others to form a new committee that will run the club for three months. A court ruling to postpone Zamalek's board election, which was due on Friday, for an indefinite period left the club in disarray. The court said that former Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour should have the right to be nominated as a candidate for the presidential seat, despite being suspended by the club's board. Despite the election postponement, Zamalek's incumbent chairman Mamdouh Abbas won't be able to carry on his duties. A four-member committee will be in charge of the club until the election takes place after three months. Wealthy businessman Abbas and controversial lawyer Mansour are expected to battle it out for the presidential seat.
Abbas set to leave Zamalek “Egyptian Higher Council for Sports (HCS) president Hassan Saqr informed me that I will be a member of the new committee,” Refaat told Modern TV. “Magdi Sharaf, Abdul-Aziz Qabeel and Mohamed Amer, all of which were former board members, will be my colleagues in the new committee.” Tough Task Refaat admitted that the committee's task will not be easy, given the club's huge financial commitments. “Zamalek should pay EGP 45 million next month for the new players, who joined the club in the close season.” “We demanded the HCS to intervene and help the club pay the players' dues.” Abbas has recently vowed to fulfill Zamalek's financial obligations even if he left his post as the club's chairman.
