Dutch Supreme Court upheld a suspended six-month jail sentence against Moroccan winger Rachid Bouaouzan, after he broke an opposition's leg in a league game in 2004. The former Sparta Rotterdam man, who currently plays for Premiership side Wigan, committed a horrific foul on Go Ahead Eagles' Niels Kokmeijer, who eventually had his career ended afterwards. The court based its verdict, which was released on Wednesday, on the face that the player caused 'grievous bodily harm' to his opponent inside the football pitch. Bouaouzan's act forced Sparta to suspend him until the end of the 2004-2005 season, besides a 10-match ban imposed by the KNVB. FIFA president Sepp Blatter has lately sounded his annoyance with on-the-pitch violence in the wake of Eduardo da Silva's infamous leg break last February. The Arsenal striker was subject to an imprudent tackle by Birmingham City's Martin Taylor, who was highly criticized by the FIFA chief.
