Essam Al-Hadari's debut with FC Sion was satisfactory, according to the Egypt guardian's teammates. French midfielder Julien Brellier said Al-Hadari revealed his leadership abilities in his first game between the posts. "The man reassures his defense like a boss, he is always in command," he said. Even though Al-Hadari conceded a goal as Sion held Neuchatel Xamax to a 1-1 draw, striker Goran Obradovic hailed his performance. "He could do nothing about the goal," said Obradovic, who scored Sion's equalizer. "He is a fine goalkeeper, now we have four good keepers." Chairman Christian Constantin said that the performance was expected from someone with Al-Hadari's experience.
