Fantastic Drogba hammers Arsenal
Published in FilGoal on 23 - 03 - 2008

Didier Drogba struck twice late in the game to register a fantastic comeback for Chelsea, who defeated Arsenal 2-1 at Samford Bridge on Sunday.
Bacary Sagna put the Gunners ahead in the 59th minute but the Ivorian marksman scored after 73 and 82 minutes to give the Blues a priceless win and revive their title hopes.
Chelsea started the game very cautious as they didn't want to concede any goals allowing Arsenal to control the midfield with some short passes.
However, the hosts had the first sight of goal as Arsenal's keeper Manuel Almunia made a brilliant stretch to deny Michael Ballack early drive.
Drogba should have opened the score when he was set up by John Terry clean on goal but he miscontrolled the ball and lost his opportunity.
Arsenal also didn't look shy. Cudicini did well to save Emmanuel Eboue's shot and the post denied another effort from William Gallas.
The desire to win the game was obvious from both sides after the interval.
Manuel Almunia tested Cudicini from long range. But the Italian could only hold on until the 59th minute when Sagna rose high to meet Cesc Fabregas' corner and score in the near-post.
The Blues responded severely when Drogba, got over his thigh pains to prove that he is one of the most feared strikers in the World.
The 29-year old hitman intercepted Frank Lampard's deflected shot and hammered it low into the ground to level the score.
Nine minutes later substitute Anelka put the ball in his path and once again he showed a deadly finishing ability to score the second and win the game for Chelsea.
With 7 matches to go, the Blues are now second with 68 points, one ahead of third place Arsenal and five behind leaders Manchester United.
