Former Italian referee Pierluigi Collina has been put under police protection for a month, earlier this year, after receiving threatening letters. The Italian media revealed on Monday that the authorities decided to give the World's most famous referee an escort because of the credible and the danger nature of the threats. A statement said that the threatening letters were concerning Collina's new work as Chief of the referees of Serie A and Serie B. The 47-year old Italian icon has been appointed in his position after the match-fixing scandal that shocked Italy and Europe in 2006.
