Schalke marched on to the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage after beating Rosenborg 3-1 in their last group match on Tuesday. Gerald Asamoah lofted the ball into the back of the net in the 12th minute, after a neat cross from the left-hand side to break the deadlock. Kevin Kuranyi set-up Brazilian full back Rafinha in the 19th minute and the Brazilian riffled a low shot past the goalkeeper. Rosenborg pulled one back in the 23rd minute thanks to a close-range striker from Yssouf Kone. But Kuranyi turned scorer nine minutes from the break as he curled a low shot into the far corner of the net. The German side finished the group stage on eight points, four adrift of runaway leaders Chelsea, who held Valencia to a goalless draw. But Rosenborg clinched a UEFA Cup berth after finishing two points ahead of Valencia.
