Anderlecht parted company with coach Frank Vercauteren on a mutual consent agreement, following the team's 2-0 defeat at Germinal Beerschot on Sunday. "By mutual agreement, the RSC Anderlecht board and Frank Vercauteren have agreed to terminate their contract with immediate effect," a statement from the club read on Monday. Vercauteren, who acquired Ahmed Hassan from Besiktas in 2006, led the Purple and White to back-to-back Belgian league titles in his first two seasons in charge. However, the Belgian champions suffered a poor start to their new season, and the crisis mounted after they were handed their second defeat this term at Germinal. The Germinal defeat left Anderlecht in 4th place in the league table, having 23 points from 13 games and lying seven points adrift of leaders Standard Liege. Anderlecht have instantly appointed 54-year-old coach Ariel Jacobs as a replacement to Vercauteren, and the new manager will be in charge until the end of the season.
