Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will be offered a contract extension by the Spanish champions, local newspaper AS reported on Friday. The club's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic will lead the negotiations to tie the Dutchman, whose contract runs out at the season's end, to Real until 2010. The official announcement will be made when Van Nistelrooy returns from international duty with Holland as he prepares for his country's Euro 2008 qualifier against Romania. The 31-year-old has been inspirational for Real last season, notching 26 goals in the Primera Liga to finish as the competition's top scorer and lead Los Merengues to their first title in four years. The goal machine scored twice on Wednesday as Real drew 2-2 with Italian side Lazio in the UEFA Champions League.
