Croatian striker Ivica Olic put the icing on the cake five minutes past the hour mark. The hosts' midfielder Florian Kringe was sent off in the 51st minute of the game. Zidan came to action in the 75th minute to replace Guerrero. The victory lifts Hamburg to third place with 13 points, just one behind leaders Bayern Munich.
