Middlesbrough have sent a letter to Ahli demanding midfielder Mohamed Shawki to fly to England to undergo a medical at the Riverside, the Egyptian champions said on Friday. "Shawki will not return to Egypt and will travel to England straight from France, where he was fulfilling international duty," Ahli marketing director Adli Al-Qaeyi told the club's official website. Al-Qaeyi has also said that Boro have accepted to buy Shawki for 1.25 million sterling pounds. The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Egypt's goalless draw with Ivory Coast in an international friendly on Wednesday. Premiership side Middlesbrough, who secured the signing of Mido, contacted Ahli earlier this month to offer a trial to fellow Egyptians Emad Meteb and Shawki. However, they have seemingly changed their mind regarding having the Ahli striker, opting to make a move for Shawki only. "Meteb will return to Egypt to resume training with the team," Al-Qaeyi said.
