Belgian former world number one Kim Clijsters has decided to end her career with immediate effect so she could focus on her personal life. "After the fantastic and moving farewell in Antwerp all good things must come to an end," said Clijsters, 23, on her website diary. The world number four first, who were captured by a series of injuries, announced her plan to retire at the end of this season but following here first round defeat in Warsow she decided to hang up her racket. “The recurring injuires, having difficulty in getting out of bed in the morning, needing about an hour to get all the muscles warmed up, the demanding preparations of the marriage with Brian... It all makes things a bit difficult to keep on going.” Clijsters has planned her wedding with American basketball player Brian Lynch in July. “The best memories of my life as a pro tennis player: the many tournament titles, the Grand Slams in the singles and the doubles, world champion and having been number on in singles and doubles. “But right now, it is time for a new life. Time for marrying. Children? Time for cooking and playing with the dogs. And above all time for my family and friends.”
