Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan said that he will do his best to make sure his club Mainz stays in the top flight next season. Zidan, who joined Mainz from Werder Bremen in January, has so far scored 12 times for the club, but his efforts seem to be in vain as the team has slipped from one defeat to another. Mainz are on the verge of being relegated as they lie second to last in the Bundesliga table on 31 points with three rounds left to play. “It's very hard, but we can still manage to stay in the Bundesliga,” Zidan said in an interview with Kicker magazine.
“We are not officially relegated, and I will continue to fight for my team,” he added. Mainz have an uphill task in their three remaining games as they face second-placed Stuttgart, Borussia Moenchengladbach and giants Bayern Munich. “With a little bit of luck it could happen, especially if our direct competitors lose.” Zidan has been in the spotlight with his outstanding performance this season and is said to be targeted by Bundesliga giants Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin. But the prolific striker remains hopeful he will help Mainz stay in the first division and stay with the club.
