Egypt's 2008 Beijing Olympic Games hopes demolished after they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Ivory Coast at Felix Houphouet-Boigny stadium on Saturday. The Pharaohs crashed out of the qualifiers' second round 4-2 on aggregate as the first-leg ended in a 1-1 draw in Cairo. Ismaili midfielder Abdullah Al-Saied stunned the home crowd in the 14th minute when he notched home on the rebound after Shikabala's initial shot struck the post. Egypt could have added the second on several occasions but squandered a host of opportunities in the first-half. The Pharaohs paid for missed chances five minutes after re-start when Ivory Coast striker Cisse Sekou leveled the score from the penalty spot. Sekou scored again on the stroke of the hour mark to make matters worse for Egypt. Ivory Coast ended Egypt's hopes with a third three minutes from time. Portuguese boss Eduardo Vingada failed to lead Egypt to their first Olympic Games appearance since the 1992 tournament in Barcelona.
