Serie A strugglers Parma have named Claudio Ranieri as their new manager succeeding Stefano Pioli, the Italian club announced on its website on Tuesday. Parma have been underachieving with Pioloi, who lost his last game in charge 3-0 to Roma on Sunday, a result that sealed his fate. Ranieri has been unemployed since 2005 when he was sacked by Spanish side Valencia following a string of bad results. The 54-year-old tactician has guided Fiorentina to Serie A promotion in 1993, winning cup title in 1996 before adding a Spanish cup title with Valencia in 1999. Ranieri had a 4-year spell in England with Chelsea where he was succeeded by Jose Mourinho. Parma have lost 13 games of 22 and are currently flirting with relegation as they lie in 19th spot with 15 points. Ranieri's first game in charge will be on Wednesday against Braga of Portugal in the UEFA Cup.
