Egypt moved up eight places in the FIFA monthly ranking to settle in the 19th place for January 2007, their best position since the African Cup of Nations triumph last year. Although the Pharaohs didn't play any match in January, they were included in the world's top 20 for the first time since occupying the 17th place in February 2006. Egypt is still holding top spot among the Arab nations in the FIFA ranking after receiving 918 points. Tunisia and Morocco came second and third respectively with 784 and 864 points. On the African level, Nigeria remained on top in the ninth place followed by 11th-placed Cameroon while Ivory Coast lie one spot ahead of Egypt. Brazil maintained their supremacy over the rest of the world and world champions Italy finished second. World Cup's bronze medalist Germany leapfrogged England to grab the fifth place.
