David Beckham insisted that his decision to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy was based on footballing reasons rather than money. "I don't want to go out to America at 34 with people saying he is only going for the money," Beckham told Sky Sports Network on Thursday. "I am going out to hopefully build a team which has a lot of potential, that's what excites me." The former England skipper announced that he will leave Spanish giants Real Madrid at the end of the season for a new challenge at LA Galaxy on a five-year deal worth $250 million. Beckham joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2003 following his infamous bust-up with coach Alex Ferguson, but failed to produce the form which saw him once considered one of the finest players on the right-hand side of the pitch. The 31-year-old became out of favor at the Santiago Bernabeu since the arrival of Italian boss Fabio Capello. He failed to win any major trophies during his three-and-a-half seasons with Los Meringues.
