Real Madrid slumped to their fifth defeat of the season when they lost 2-0 to Deportivo Coruna on Sunday in the Spanish League. The home side took the lead after just 10 minutes as Joan Capdevila's free-kick nipped through Real's wall and floated past Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Angel Arizmendi could have doubled the lead when he outmuscled several challengers but his shot cannoned off the post. But he dished out a smart assist in the 56th minute to Cristian who had no trouble to tuck the ball into an unguarded net as Casillas was left stranded by the cross. Elsewhere, European and Spanish champions Barcelona were held by Getafe to a 1-1 draw. Daniel Guiza put Getafe ahead in the 54th minute when he scuffed a loose ball after a poor pass from Rafael Marquez before his shot deflected off Victor Valdez's body and went in. Spanish international midfielder Xavi put Barcelona level when he curled a venomous free-kick that sailed over the wall and hit the back of the net in the 70th minute. The results left Barca in second spot with 35 points, three ahead of third-placed Real Madrid. Sevilla, who lost 2-1 to Real Zaragoza on Saturday, remain in charge with 37 points.
