African champions Ahli are keen on extending the contract of manager Manuel Jose after winning a second successive Champions League title, a club source said on Monday. Several board members agreed that Jose did a great job this year in retaining both the league and African titles despite missing several key players through injuries, the source told FilGoal.com on condition of anonymity. In two spells with Ahli, Jose won ten titles including two league shields and three Champions League trophies. The Portuguese coach's contract expires in June 2007. Jose, who coached Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon and Benfica, was linked with a move back to his homeland after the African glory but he played down the departure reports. He told reporters upon arrival to Cairo on Sunday that he hasn't spoken about his future with the club, denying that he hinted at a move out next summer. The 60-year-old boss had initially come to Cairo in 2001, leading Ahli to their third ever Champions League and winning the African Super Cup a few weeks later. Yet, his one-year contract wasn't extended but he rejoined the club midway through the 2003-2004 season when Ahli suffered an embarrassing dip in form. Since then, Jose won the league two successive times in unbeaten campaigns and was promoted to a half-god statue by fans when he guided Ahli to crush arch-rivals Zamalek 6-1 in a memorable encounter.
