Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti voiced his confidence in his players and coach on Monday despite the team's recent disappointing results. The Italian 'double' winners lost their second successive Champions League game and became threatened of early exit last week after falling 2-0 to Bayern Munich at home. On Sunday, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari to slump to second place in Serie A, leaving the summit to AS Roma. Moratti, though, keeps a cool head and looks at the bright side of Inter's poor results. "The positive aspects were several players who are improving. I think the players were mostly tired," Moratti was quoted as saying by Inter.it. "This was my impression in a match after which no one would have said anything if it had ended 2-1. Unfortunately we got a draw, but I don't think it's a drama.
Inter lost to Bayern at home "There was a concrete reaction in terms of desire (after the Bayern defeat), but a bit less from the physical point of view." Inter took on hosts Cagliari with all arms blazing, with coach Roberto Mancini opting for a bold attacking 4-3-3 formation, that featured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Hernan Crespo and Adriano. But it was Cagliari who scored first before Inter secured a point thanks to a strike from World Cup winning defender Fabio Grosso. Moratti admitted that fielding three strikers caused some problems but stressed that clinching the three points would have silenced the critics. "It was the first time it had been used. We were a bit off-balance and the midfield wasn't the first-choice one," he said. "However, the three midfielders gave very good cover and we also had some chances up to that point. But in football everything works if you score a goal."
