Two goals from Gary Speed and Ivan Campo gave Bolton Wanderers a deserved 2-0 home victory over Liverpool in the Premiership on Saturday. A controversial free-kick by Speed put Bolton ahead the 30th minute before Spanish midfielder Campo sealed the victory six minutes after re-start. The result put Bolton temporarily in second place of the Premiership table with 14 points while Liverpool lie eighth on ten points. Xabi Alonso almost grabbed the lead for Liverpool in the 20th minute when he received Tal Ben Haim's clearance on the edge of the area with a brilliant first-timer that struck the post. Ten minutes later, Bolton were awarded a controversial free kick on the edge of the area for an alleged handball by Reds keeper Jose Reina, but television replays proved the referee's decision was harsh. Speed stepped-up to connect with Campo's short pass and hit a low drive into the bottom corner of the net as Reina went to the other direction. Former Real Madrid midfielder Campo ensured the win in the 51st minute when he towered to head home Kevin Davies' inch-perfect cross.
