Arsenal went clear on top of the Premiership after grabbing a late 2-0 victory over Wigan, while Manchester United lost ground following a 1-0 away defeat to Bolton Wanderers. At Emirates Stadium, the Gunners couldn't find their usual rhythm but their display was justified by the absence of key players such as Cesc Fabregas and Alexander Hleb. French defender Willam Gallas broke Wigan's resistance seven minutes from time. He got ahead of marker Titus Bramble to nod Bacary Sagna's first-time cross past Wigan keeper Mike Pollitt. Czech Republic playmaker Tomas Rosicky put the result beyond doubt two minutes later after concluding a fine counter attack. Arsenal are on top of the Premiership table with 33 points and one game in hand, three clear of second-placed United, who were woeful against Gary Megson's Bolton. Nicolas Anelka scored the hosts' winner in the 11th minute to give coach Megson his first victory since replacing Sammy Lee. Ivan Campo's free-kick evaded Anelka's inexperienced marker Gerard Pique and the French striker chested it before firing home to send the home fans into ecstasy. Carlos Tevez squandered a golden opportunity to equalize when Patrice Evra raced down the left flank before feeding the Argentinean striker, who mis-hit his shot with the goal at his mercy.
