Manchester United grabbed their third successive win in the Premiership after beating newly-promoted Watford 2-1 on Saturday as their neighbors City stunned visitors Arsenal with a 1-0 victory. Damien Francis' goal for Watford before half-time cancelled out Mikael Silvestre's opener early in the first period before Ryan Giggs snatched the victory in his 600th appearance for United. The result put United on top of the Premiership table with nine points after taking maximum points from three games, while Watford lie 17th with just one point. Silvestre put United ahead in the 12th minute when he received Louis Saha's neat pass inside the area before firing a low shot into the far corner of the net. Watford leveled the score in the 34th minute when Ashley Young side-stepped Silvestre in the right flank before providing a low cross to the unmarked Francis who sent an easy tap-in. Giggs scored the winner seven minutes after re-start as he capitalized on a dreadful error by Matthew Spring after he gave the ball away to the welsh winger, who rounded the keeper and slot into the empty net.
Elsewhere, Joey Barton scored just before the break to lead Manchester City to their first ever Premiership win over Arsenal with a 1-0 home victory. Barton thundered a penalty that took a deflection off the crossbar and went past keeper Jens Lehmann to seal a shocking victory over Arsenal, who are yet to grab their first win in the Premiership. Earlier on Saturday, Liverpool came from behind to beat West Ham United 2-1 at the Anfield Road to register their first Premiership victory. Bobby Zamora broke the deadlock in the 12th minute before Daniel Agger leveled the score three minutes before the interval. England international Peter Crouch secured the win two minutes later. In other matches, ten-man Everton beat Tottenham 2-0, Wigan Athletic edged Reading 1-0, Fulham defeated Sheffield United 1-0 and Charlton Athletic cruised past Bolton Wanderers 2-0.
