Filippo Inzaghi scored a brace to help AC Milan thrash Bayern Munich 4-1 and progress to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday. Andriy Shevchenko and Ricardo Kaka were also on the score sheet while Valerien Ismael notched the consolation goal for Bayern. Milan are through to the UCL quarter-finals on a 5-2 aggregate victory after holding the Bavarian giants to a 1-1 away victory in the first leg two weeks ago. Inzaghi needed only eight minutes to put Milan ahead when he met Serginho's inch-perfect cross with a fine header into the far angle of the net.
Shevchenko In the 23rd minute, Milan were awarded a penalty kick after Inzaghi was clipped by Bayern defender Ismael, Shevchenko stepped-up but he failed to deliver as his shot went wide of the post. The Ukrainian striker made up for his missed penalty when he doubled Rossoneri's lead just two minutes later after he connected with Jaap Stam's cross from the right flank to head home. Bayern pulled one back through Ismael who scored from the rebound in the 35th minute after Bastian Schweinsteiger's initial free-kick was poorly saved by Milan keeper Dida. Inzaghi added Milan's third, his 50th European goal ever, two minutes after re-start when he capitalized on a dreadful error by Bayern's defensive duo Bixente Lizarazu and Ismael who failed to clear the ball away from the area. Brazilian international Kaka completed the route in the 59th minute as he received Shevchenko's through pass before sending a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
