2000 Debuted for Zamalek at 17, scored a couple of goals and suddenly moved to Belgium's Gent. 2001 After impressing in Belgium, Mido scored on his Egypt debut against UAE and earned a big move to Ajax after finishing his Gent season with nine goals in 18 appearances. 2002 Won the Dutch double with Ajax after hitting 13 goals in his first season in Amsterdam. 2003 Joined Celta Vigo on loan after falling out with Ajax boss Ronald Koeman before being snapped up by Marseille in the summer, scoring his first European goal against Real Madrid. 2004 A disappointing Nations Cup campaign with Egypt ended in a group-stage exit as Mido left Marseille to Roma but struggled to make an impact in Italy. 2005 Enjoyed the peak of his career in a loan spell with Tottenham, where he took the Premier League by storm, hitting 10 goals in his first year. 2006 Won a permanent contract at Spurs but couldn't keep the goals flowing after an infamous touchline spat with Egypt boss Hassan Shehata overshadowed his CAN 2006 triumph. 2007 Lost his Spurs place and was eventually offloaded to Middlesbrough as his nightmare of long-term injuries began during an inconsistent spell at the Riverside. 2008 Despite an impressive start to the 2008/2009 season, Mido was haunted by more injury setbacks at Boro, where he spent most of his time nursing hip, hernia and knee problems. 2009 Moved to Wigan on loan, scored a couple of goals, saw parent club Middlesbrough relegated but couldn't win a permanent deal with the Latics as he made a dramatic return to Zamalek on loan, scoring just once in 13 games for his old club. 2010 Still under a Middlesbrough contract, Mido left Zamalek for another short-term stint with West Ham, but further disappointment was followed by a desperate attempt to revive his waning career at former club Ajax, where he spent six unremarkable months. 2011 After running out of contract with Boro, Mido couldn't find a club in Europe before re-joining Zamalek on a free transfer, only for an infamous registration error to keep him at home for a year in what was the most disappointing era of his career. 2012 After hardly proving his credentials with Shehata's Zamalek, an overweight Mido moved to Barnsley in what was his first non-top-flight experience. 2013 Mido was released by Barnsley in January after failing to start a single game, six months before announcing his retirement from football.
