Mohamed Al-Gabbas late strike was not enough to save Lierse from a 2-1 defeat at Mons in the Europa League Belgian playoff. Al-Gabbas, who played the whole game, scored five minutes from time to mark his fourth goal of the season for Lierse. The Lierse line-up included three other Egyptians, with goalkeeper Essam Mahmoud and defenders Ahmed Saied ‘Ouka' and Ahmed Abou-Mosallam all playing 90 minutes. Mostafa Shebeita and Ahmed Samir Farag were also on the bench for the Egyptian-owned club. Lierse lie bottom of Group A of the playoff as they meet Ghent next weekend.
