Egypt's men are close to winning their sixth African Handball title, having qualified for the semis after crushing Morocco 44-21 in the second round of the tournament Tuesday night in Cairo. The Pharaohs will meet Algeria in the semis Friday. In Tuesday night's game, Pharaohs hammered their opponents, scoring the most goals in any match in the tournament so far. They put on well from the very first minute, dominating the game after taking the lead, thanks to Egypt's coach, Gamal Shams, who deployed two formations in the two halves. Egypt's captain Hussein Zaki, Ahmed el-Ahmer, Moustafa Sayyed and Mohamed Keshk inspired their side to end the first half 23-8. In the second half, Shams used the second formation to allow the Egyptians to demolish the Moroccans. Meanwhile, Gabon defeated Congo 32-30 on Tuesday night and Cameroon outrivalled Côte d'Ivoire 30-22. Today women's games feature Egypt vs Congo in the fifth and sixth places and Cameroon vs Democratic Republic of Congo. Egypt's men have won the handball title five times, in 1991, 1992, 2000, 2004, 2008.
