Egypt's men qualified for the second round of the 19th African Cup of Nations Handball Championship in Cairo on Saturday night, after clinching their third win in a row. They beat Angola 28-20. With this win, the Pharaohs top their Group B with six points and will face Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Monday night at 8:00 (local time). Despite their third successive win, Egypt didn't put on well. They missed wings, consequently the netting was weak and late. Angola scored first and both teams had a tough first half, especially the Egyptians, who look disorganised and confused. Despite that, the Pharaohs ended the first half 13-11 up. In the second half, Angola dominated almost all the time, although substitute Belal Awwad of Egypt turned the tables on the opponents, scoring successive goals and helping the Pharaohs win the game. Egypt's men had defeated Gabon and Cameroon in the same competition on Thursday and Friday nights respectively. Meanwhile, in the women's competition, Egypt drew with DRC 29-29 on Saturday night in the Canal city of Suez. They also drew with Congo 27-27 in the same city on Friday night. In other men's matches on Saturday night, DRC beat Libya 26-18 and Tunisia defeated Algeria 23-20, while Cameroon drew with Gabon 33-33. Monday men's matches include Tunisia vs Angola in the first group and DRC vs Egypt in Group B, while Group C will see Nigeria meet Congo. Monday women's competition features Cameroon vs Angola, Côte d'Ivoire vs Egypt and Congo vs Algeria. Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are all strong candidates to win the competition.
