CAIRO - Samir Zaher, the ex-president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), said that Egypt Prosecutor-General's decision to refer 75 suspects to the criminal court Thursday rehabilitated the former EFA board. Zaher stressed that all sanctions against Al-Masry needs a political decision and not made by those responsible for the sport in the country. "The referral is a strict response to those who criticized the EFA after the Port Said Massacre," Zaher told Al-Hayat TV Channel. He pointed out that many accused the EFA of involvement in the massacre. "The referral demonstrates our innocence and restores our reputation.” Anwar Saleh heads the temporary committee that runs the EFA. The previous board, headed by Zaher, resigned in the wake of the Port Said tragedy early last month. An Ahly Ultras member spoke on condition of anonymity and said that referring 75 suspects to the criminal court represented only 3 per cent of the Ultras' demands; they would continue to push for justice. "We will be present at the trials," he added. The Prosecutor-General, Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud, also decided to install surveillance cameras in all football stadiums that would host matches in the coming period, to monitor all the stadiums' approaches and the entire internal and external areas.
